Hey! My name is Joe Luther. I was born and raised in Fort Smith, Arkansas. I was diagnosed with Arnold-Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia when I was 28, so roughly 8 years ago. My symptoms have progressed to the point I am now in a wheelchair, but trying to make the best of the situation.
My paralyisis extends from about 4 or 5 inches above my knees down to my feet. Both of my feet are useless for walking, with my right foot having lost all feeling and movement and my left having lost 98% of movement and I only feel pressure.
Everything else works fine, so that means I’m completely independent as far as the normal everyday stuff goes.. bathroom, showering, getting dressed, getting in and out of the car, transferring on the bed, etc, etc…
I have two amazing children, Aria (4) and Riley (9) who are the coolest little Princesses this side of that way and give me a reason to keep going even when it’s hard to find one.
I hope you will continue to check in on this blog and keep up with my life. As of May 12th, 2018, I could no longer walk, so this is all pretty new to me, so follow along as I figure out what it’s like to live with a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). I hope it gives people hope, inspires people and is interesting. It may just be funny pictures of me falling off stuff, who knows?
